With GRID being an international company, there are employees working from all over the world. Where are you based?
I’m based in Berlin and I’ve lived in the city for over 7 years now.
You were promoted to the Head of Sponsorships at the end of July. How have the last two months been in your new role?
It’s been really interesting so far. It’s a very exciting area of work full of lots of opportunities. You just have to prioritize the right ones. Plenty to learn as new partners come into the business but I’m generally very confident going forward further into the role.
Can you describe your responsibilities as the Head of Sponsorships? What does your day-to-day look like?
My time is split into two areas which are account management and sales. I’m always looking for new opportunities that are commercially viable for sponsorships. I find it really satisfying to meet new people and build relations with them in the professional space. Also finding the products that make a lot of sense to be pushed into the market with us. One of the most fascinating parts of my job is learning about the other people I am interacting with and how to help them.
On the other hand we have our pre-existing partners that need upholding and taking care of. That is also my key responsibility together with my team. It’s critical for us to be monitoring performance, ensuring they’re happy and seeking expansion within the relationship.
I am always working together with my team to ensure we’re entering our work with the highest standards and also helping them to expand their responsibilities. It’s a pretty open space where new ideas can be suggested such as new broadcasting platforms to speak with or we could discuss building a podcast for example. Pretty fun topics to be had which usually result in me just having to prioritize where we lay our resource.
Tell us about your history with GRID. What led you to join the team back in 2019?
I was already living in Berlin and working at another esports startup but I was looking for something new. My former colleague came to GRID and I contacted Tom & Chris to ask if they’d like to meet. They convinced me to join the company, and it was a great decision to do so. Three years later, I am very happy in the business.
What is your favorite memory from your three years with the company?
My favorite memory with GRID is probably running the All Hands (GRID’s company-wide monthly round-up). It’s something I am always looking forward to every month and don’t have to plan for it or anything. I just jump in and deliver plenty of good news to the business and help people have a smile and laugh.
If you were to describe GRID to someone who has never heard of us — what would you say we are doing?
“GRID is a gaming startup which builds technology for people to use. We also help commercialize esports events which is the area I am focused on” This is what I tell people who are outside of the industry.
